Review of K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) by Dave J — 25 Mar 2012
"They sent us chemical protective suits instead...might as well wear raincoats." It was good, but nothing spectacular. Kathryn Bigelow turns out another mediocre war-time story. The middle of the film is great and really intense, then it loses speed towards the end.
The story is true, but the movie has been somewhat dramatized, no surprises there. Ford and Neeson gave strong performances, but something else that was weird: everyone in the film used a Russian accent.
..everyone but Neeson, who sounded normal. Umm, ok whatever. Also, some of the CGI looked good, some of it had me shaking my head. Overall, I think it's worth a one-time view. But as for me, I prefer The Hunt For Red October and U-571.
I still have to see Das Boot. As soon as I have 5 hours free haha.
