Review of K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) by Buggy B — 27 Mar 2013
07.11 (2) Ah yes the History channel. I had seen this years ago but enjoyed it way more this time around. Harrison Ford is still kind of lame with his Russian Accent but Liam Neeson is great as the other Nuclear sub Captains. I also enjoyed spotting my "boyfriend" Kris Holden-Ried in one of his first roles as the Geiger-counting Russian sailor.
The story is incredible. The scene where the boys are going into the nuclear reactor to fix it gave me Goosebumps. The courage it took, especially the second group to go in who had just seen the first ones return, after only 10 minutes. The state of them blind, puking, burned, essentially melting. Very scary stuff. That this is a true story and that it could have so easily escalated into an all out war of misunderstanding, is mind boggling. I was also surprised that this took place in 1961 because in the great scheme of things that's not so long ago.
