Review of Justice League: War (2014) by Steve W — 03 Feb 2015
This DC Original Animated Movie is heavy on the comedic quips and the action sequences, but that's because of its source material. It takes its plot from Geoff John's Justice League: Origin, which had plenty of problems of its own.
Batman and Green Lantern cross paths when they investigate the kidnappings of civilians, and the mysterious devices left all over parts of the country. They bump into Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and now Captain Marvel (now called Shazam?) and eventually Cyborg. These seven heroes must stop an alien invasion, in an eerily similar plot to The Avengers. There's even a hero falling to the Earth caught by another after the final blow to the villains.
The voice work is not up to par this time, as some of the players do not sound good. I had problems with Green Lantern, who sounded really whiny for some reason.
Wonder Woman definitely stole the show this time around, cutting up Parademons with her sword. The animation is incredible, able to give a sense of a huge battle that the comics could not. The final battle which pits Darkseid and his Parademon army against the heroes is the highlight of the movie.
Despite some flaws here and there, Justice League: War is a very entertaining animated film.
