Review of Justice League vs. Teen Titans (2016) by Matt G — 19 Jun 2016
The latest treat of the DC Comics animated features saw the return of the Teen Titans in their updated glory, with no overshadowing by the Justice League, in this third team-up since "War" that nicely blends Batman's arc of the animated shared universe into the team-up. "Justice League vs. Teen Titans" follows the 2016 superhero genre trend of pitting heroes against one another with the usual difference in beliefs, but at a different approach.
After disrupting a mission with the Justice League, Robin got sent into the Teen Titans to learn the value and dynamic of teamwork (and trust), meeting Raven, Beast Boy, Blue Beetle, and their team leader Starfire. While he's difficult for the Titans to get along with, Raven's past returns to haunts her as her father, Trigon, sets his eyes on the Justice League over possession towards world domination, with Raven as the key. The Titans must protect Raven from her father and the League.
Similar to how "Throne of Atlantis" heighten the entertainment level in "War", this "Teen Titans" installment functioned similarly with the usual tastes in the action and characterization towards the quality, along with the same senses of humor and occasional heart seen in the predecessors. While that's the usual packaging, it'd justified the quickening pace seen in the past DC Comics animated films when the treatment was done with a human approach towards teen subjects, and having a perfectly-enough narrative run overall.
Defined as the most "perfect" yet whilst improving by heightening the value a little, it wasn't enough to actually be rated more than four stars since that's how much the entertainment value went up, even though the only bothersome bits are some performances and scriptwriting being labeled as dollishly dramatic. Nonetheless, it's a continuation of one of the DCAU's best entertainment with worthy installments to watch and enjoy. (A-).
