Review of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) by Jake C — 20 Sep 2018
Towards the end, there's a scene where the leads briefly consider letting the dinosaurs all suffocate to death in their cages-before a clone of the daughter of one of the park's original creators frees them to wreak destruction out in the populated world. It's clearly a metaphor for this terrible beast of franchise as a whole, but one so convoluted and artless as to lose all suggestive effect. Actually, in that sense, it is an even better metaphor for the movie than intended: From beginning to end, the narrative seems built around scenes of dubious and heavy-handed metaphorical value, moments of edgy spectacle too stylized to have any real impact, visuals better suited to small desktop wallpapers than an actual cinema.
Really, they should have just the dinos go extinct.
