Review of Jurassic Park (1993) by Frank C — 07 Jul 2018
Awesome is a word that is thrown about gratuitously these days, but it is truly exemplified in one of director Steven Spielberg's many adventure hits. Deftly tying together thrilling action with prehistoric science fiction, Jurassic Park delivers terror like no film before it alongside an undercurrent of evolutionary philosophy.
The cast plays the right notes throughout, providing comedy and drama in equal measure. Jeff Goldblum is his Goldblumian best as Ian Malcolm, while Sam Neill and Laura Dern play nicely both together and apart. Richard Attenborough is a very Crichtonesque character himself, no doubt influencing Anthony Hopkins' performance as Dr. Ford in the HBO TV series Westworld.
My biggest trifle (and admitted excuse) for watching few films from past decades is that I am concerned their older cinematography and technical direction would mar my ability to enjoy the film. However, some films can overcome all of that and enter the annals of film history. Jurassic Park is such a film, timeless and to be enjoyed for generations to come.
