Review of Juno and the Paycock (1930) by Private U — 30 Apr 2008

Sorry Hitchcock, but not one of your best. Hitchcock's second sound film seems to be all about dialogue and it isn't performed well by any of the actors. I didn't feel any sympathy for the poor starving Irish family, or joy when they receive money and the possibility of gaining a better life.

The only pleasing element of the movie was the ending. The characters start at a low point in their lifes and at the conculsion they are even lower. Which is good because it reflects the times and lifestyle.

Not all families in low class can make it out of their class structure. You are born into a class and stay there. Life isn't a fairytale.
