Review of Juno and the Paycock (1930) by James M — 09 Jul 2008
This film adaption of Sean O'Casey's classic play directed by Alfred Hitchock is merely an adaption. However, that is not Hitchcock's fault because if Hitchcock would have tried to add more to the play the story would not have worked because it is a story that is meant to be simple.
Therefore, in the end this filmed adaption turns out to be merely a filming of the staged play and the film only serves to prove that Juno in the Paycock is a play and not a movie. Despite the fact that because of this many times the film aspect takes away from the performances the story is still intact and it is a very good one.
In that case, if you fail to ever get a chance to see Juno and the Paycock onstage you can always fall back on this film version.
