Review of Juno (2007) by Abi H — 08 Oct 2012
Michael Cera (Paulie) plays his role perfectly, offering a realistic character, as an awkward, scared young man, which is understandable for any teen in his situation, who is obviously not ready for parenthood. Ellen Page's performance, I personally think is outstanding, her character, Juno Macguff is over the top to the point of hilarity and seems to be mature beyond her years, which helps us, as an audience to sympathise with both the lead characters, and the situation they're in.
The film appears to be lighthearted and an innocent take on an extremely serious issue, in many ways it makes fun of the situation the characters are in, which makes it a comfortable watch, as it does not challenge the viewer with the grim realities of the issue at hand. Which also makes it fall into the category of being "typically American" in the way that everything appears to glossed over and everyone seems to be happy the vast majority of the time. Which makes the film seem unrealistic, but the comedy aspects of the film, reminds us to not take it so seriously. Overall, Juno is a great watch, with great performances from the amusing cast and snappy one-liner punch lines, a recommended view.
