Review of Jumper (2008) by Magnus H — 09 May 2012
Slick and entertaining, definitely. I enjoyed the teleporter-romp this movie basically is, and Hayden does a heck of a lot better than he does in Star Wars. However, the main character is basically an absolute prick in his mid-twenties who's still obsessed with his high school crush. I just can't bring myself to liking him in any way. What, because he gave a girl a snowglobe and his dad is a bit of a douche, I'm supposed to accept a bank robber with no concern for others as a protagonist?
Jamie Bell's character was, ultimately, much stronger. He has a clear motivation and isn't a complete bell-end.
However, the action is fun and different, the plot plays out without standing still much ("skipping the boring bits" as he says) and I did enjoy watching it, so it gets a three.
