Review of Julius Caesar (1953) by Mike S — 11 Sep 2008
Based on the Shakespeare play. Black and white. Brando and Gielgud are particularly good. I don't quite understand why Brando got top billing as Mark Antony, because the role is secondary.
James Mason as Brutus seemed a bit underplayed, particularly compared to Brando's rabble-rousing eulogy for Caesar.
I found the direction a bit stagy, but then, this is a stage play, so it did sort of fit.
If you like Shakespeare on film, you should enjoy this version.
