Review of Juliet of the Spirits (1965) by Mariah W — 29 Aug 2007
See it for the hats alone. The whole thing wanders a bit, but the wandering seems appropriate given the story-line (medium is the message or so). the ending though is incredibly powerful. it's maybe the most careful treatment of the madness of middle-class women and why they end up there.
This is a cinematic and beautiful treatment of themes reminiscent of "Backlash" by Susan Faludi or the Betty Friedan book.
