Review of Juliet of the Spirits (1965) by Alex M — 07 May 2010
Once again, Fellini delivers on interesting and unique visuals. with some great acting by Guiletta Masina and Mario Pisu, but the story seems to go nowhere, which makes the film feel overlong and tedious.
Some bits were just so over dramatic, they became comedic, especially the clairvoyant scenes. another problem is the ridiculous characters in her life, they're just so unrealistic and come and go with no reason. the music, as good as nina rota is, was great but did not match at all the tone of the film. seemed very out of place, although some of the score did have that "ghostly" feel which helped enhance the eerieness of the film somewhat. I guess it was just a bit boring really..characters don't change from beginning to end, except maybe the lead, Juliet. some very good eye candy though.
