Review of Juliet of the Spirits (1965) by Michael O — 08 Nov 2008
"Juliet of the Spirits" is Fellini's best movie. A feat I thought could never be done after seeing "La Dolce Vita' and hey the bastard went and did it.
He masters colour with the same chromatic structure as his earlier movies and then sends it into painterly realms. There's a lot of eye candy going on with this movie and that's the way I like it.
Julietta's story is in my taste too. A slice of life tale filled with a big, old philosophical scope. Her mind is projected in a hallucinatory psychodrama! There's so much in this movie I know I didnt get in the first view so until I see it again I'll sit and smile and enjoy whatever I've gotten from first impression. I'll tell you it's enough to overwhelm me as it is.
Nino, Masina, Fellini. Bravaso!
