Review of Juliet, Naked (2018) by Mary H — 26 Aug 2018
My review is low not because of the performances but because of the source material. The story was of a woman who has the potential to get her life together (and ultimately does) but is surrounded by men who are childish and utterly worthless.
If the genders were reversed, would everyone be sympathetic to a woman who had 5 kids by 4 different men and abandoned all of them? And one in a nightclub sink no less. My takeaway from this movie - as a woman, if you want to have a baby you have to take what you can get and enjoy it - until he bails on you.
Ugh. Even the boyfriend of the daughter didn't stay. Nick Hornsby must have a lot of gender self hatred.
