Review of Julie & Julia (2009) by Jeffrey G — 13 Aug 2012
What a wonderful surprise this film was.
As a movie buff (the less pretentious term for "Cinematiste") and foodie (the less pretentious term for "Gourmand" or "Gastronomique"), this film satisfied on BOTH levels. It's heartfelt, sweet, romantic and well-made to boot. The melding of both ladies is extremely well-done, and both performances--as you'd expect, if you've been paying attention--are top-notch. It's nice to see Amy Adams do anything besides wide-eyed innocence, and Meryl Streep is the male version of Daniel Day-Lewis to me.
You've got one of two options--buy "Mastering the Art of French Cooking", cook a meal and go see the film...or go see it, and then head off to one of the FEW classic French restaurants in the area.
Good luck!
