Review of Julie & Julia (2009) by Ghost C — 09 Nov 2018
Amy Adams stars as a modern day, real life blogger who idolizes TV chef Juila Child. Meryl Streep is charming as the fascinating Julia Child, whose life is recounted in interspersed scenes. While Child's life is presented in warm, adventurous tones, Amy Adams' protagonist struggles to keep up with the woman she blogs about and we, the audience, are left with a character whose own husband can barely stand.
Although the film attempts to portray the real life biographies of both women, there is an air of forcing positivity into a story that has potential for far more cathartic value. The result is an uneven tone between Julia's past and Julie's present.
Overall, a fun, light movie that doesn't ask its audience to delve too deep.
