Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by Vig S — 21 Jan 2008
A bitter exploration into Truffaut's vision of woman as the temptress, obviously semi-autobiographically influenced by his own experiences of women treating him like shit and playing with his emotions.
Two lifelong friends are turned into eventual rival through the affections of one woman, constantly playing with their minds (and other bits) as if they were toys. Although Jules and Jim are sensible, intelligent men, they can't defy their hearts desires and are drawn in to her games without second thought.
They each try to co-exist, but her frustrating pedantics eventually lead to their demise. A wonderfully, beautiful film that, once you can overlook its unusual love-triangle scenario, will have you captivated by the baseness of humanity.
