Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by Darryl J — 27 May 2008
Francois Truffaut was so revolutionary. His style of film-making was one of a kind. It's now been widely copied but never better than him. I can even see some techniques Scorsese picked up on in this film. Everything in this film is so refreshingly energetic. From the writing to the directing to the actual plot.
I was mesmerized from the start. It has voice over narration and everyone knows how much I love that. The three leads were all amazing in their roles. Jeanne Moreau was especially effective. I love the way she portrayed her character. She could have been super over the top but she maintains a certain human quality to the performance which makes her character memorable. The pacing of this movie was just right too. There are so many things in this movie I loved. I'm mostly excited just to watch it again.
