Truffaut's style makes this feel as if you're watching a dream...or a poem, built from these tangible and intangible fragments of reality and imagination. It's strange and good and destructive and fascinating, though ultimately not entirely genuine for reasons I can't quite pin down.

Catherine is not a real woman...she's a statue, a work of art, and Truffaut never treats her as anything more than that, though he claims to. However, yes, this is ultimately about Jules and Jim, and there it does succeed.

I think the real message is, obviously, bros before hoes. Haha.
