Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by James B — 29 Mar 2009
What is the nature of friendship and romantic love? Can they be explained? Truffaut tackles these dilemmas in this menage a trois drama.
I recently watched this again. I'd forgotten how complicated the thoughts and theories of the principals are regarding love, sex, and romance. I was impressed with Raoul Coutard's use of close-ups, aerial shots, and his use of period footage. And I enjoyed how many of the sets were lit from above with natural light, the way it was done in the early silent era.
