Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by Jenny G — 14 May 2009
It's pretty damn difficult to respect or sympathize with any one of the protagonists in Truffaut's highly revered film. Quite frankly they're all crazy.
Especially Jeanne Moreau's immoral, dispicable, whore of a character.
Visually however, this film is alive and exuberant. I love the way it looks from end to end. It's pretty obvious Truffaut was still getting the hang of the camera and there's a lot of experimental type stuff going on, but that added to the experience for me. But yeah, horrible story. Well made, but lacking any positive moral aspect.
