Review of Juice (1992) by Marianne V — 26 Dec 2012
Juice is about four friends who grew up on the streets of Harlem New York. Q( is a local DJ) and works hard to get auditions to make his name known, while the rest of the group doesn't show any interest in anything productive. One day, one of the boys Bishop( Tupac), gets a hold of a pistol and suggests to the other three that they rob a convenience store. Eventually Bishop convinces them and they go through with it. While in the process of robbing the store, Bishop shoots the store keeper in the head, killing him, for no apparent reason. The boys panic and scatter, and run into an alley before the police show up. The three boys confront Bishop about the murder right away, but only to find out that the weapon has made him hungry with power. Bishop kills one of the boys, and threatens the other two's life's if they utter a single word about what they had seen. Q quickly finds out that he may have to deal with Bishop himself in order to stop him from going completely crazy.
Juice is a suspenseful movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat, despite a slow start. Tupac's performance as Bishop deserves two thumbs up, as he does a master job at bringing a memorable and sinister character to the film. Other than Tupac, the acting in this film is sub par. The story is good, but it could have been much more. The film is good, but it only gets three stars from me. Not a film for children what so ever. It contains sexual content, strong racial content, strong language, violence, and drug use.
