Review of Juggernaut (1974) by Max M — 31 Jan 2008
Despite what the idiotic synopsis on this site says - this is NOT a disaster movie. A disaster movie falls under the category of a natural disaster affecting the characters. In this picture, it is a mad bomber who has targeted a luxury cruise ship and threatens to blow it up if his ransom is not met. The writers of Speed should have been sued due to their rampant plagiarism of this film.
Director Richard Lester, who is best known as the man who directed both Beatles films, pulled off an amazing bit of filmmaking (shooting on a real Ocean Liner on the rough open sea is not an easy task in the least) despite coming on the project late (production had already begun) and he still managed to bring the picture in on time and under budget. A tense and brilliant action thriller that you should definitely seek out.
