Review of Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) by Jonathan B — 01 Jun 2008
I cannot say enough about this film, but have to start out by stating that anyone who enjoys law or philosophy, not to mention cinema must see this movie. Judgment at Nuremburg picks up at the tail end of the Nuremburg trials of the Naziâ??s after WWII.
The main defendants have already been tried and killed, the Cold War is about to explode, and everyone is ready to move on. Into this situation an American judge has to determine the guilt of a group of German judges and prosecutors who carried out the laws and edicts of the Third Reich.
There are too many great scenes and speeches to list, but they are each delivered with maximum force and effectiveness, and really make you reflect on what responsibility each of us has when it comes to the actions of our country.
Max Schell deserved the Best Actor Oscar he won for this film, but the entire cast was amazing. The writing is top notch and it is well directed, too.
