Review of Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) by I Don't Know W — 30 Jul 2011
Every film that's over 2 1/2 hours usually frightens me Judgment at Nuremberg feels quite short for a three hour courtroom drama.
It accomplishes that with well-chosen camera angles and close-ups, a nice ensemble cast (outstanding performances by Clift, Lancaster and Tracy) and a lack of reality regarding the procedure of the trial.
But real trials are boring anyhow so that's just artistic freedom at the right place I guess.
It's also revolutionary and I guess at its time it was controversial to show the real footage of KZs and its prisoners in a movie and I have to give cudos for the guts to do it.
