Definetely as lovely and tragic as most of yimou's other work. I dont think its as good as raise the red lantern but certainly as affecting. I was left pondering the morality of all the characters involved as I dont think there is a good one in the lot of 'em.
I absolutely loved the cinematography but the dvd copy I had was total crap.
