Review of Joy (2015) by Matthew Samuel M — 09 Jan 2016
Sure, it's not Silver Linings, American Hustle, or The Fighter. But it is another enjoyable example of O. Russell's charming, witty style of directing. O. Russell knows how to make movies feel real and raw---how to make actors' interactions with one another organic.
There are missteps, haphazard editing, uneven pacing, and an overstretched length, but Joy ultimately succeeds at telling a great American story by making us care about the story. In addition, Jennifer Lawrence gives her best performance since Winter's Bone.
