Review of Joy (2015) by Riff J — 12 Jan 2016
Wow, Jennifer Lawrence. I have to admit I wasn't the biggest fan of the over-hyped Hunger Games JL... but this girl can really act. She can evoke a wide range of emotions from the viewer, almost on cue.
It's a rare quality to have, and she possesses it in spades. Many actors imho require a plot setup, or a supporting actor to help their cause, which they then play off of and succeed... but JL seems to be able to do it on her own, using just her mannerisms and facial expressions.
Overall the movie could have been better, with a bit more decisive direction, but it still manages to impress and remain interesting throughout. Joy is a fantastic character/story that has no trouble facing obstacle after obstacle and never staying down for the count.
Very impressive story.
