Review of Joy (2015) by Jared T — 28 Feb 2016
This may not be the Hunger Games, but it is a story about a hero. The combination of the script and the cast hits the bulls-eye on what they were shooting for. It's just a Seinfeld-esque story of comedic tragedy in everyday life, yet Jennifer Lawrence might as well be in another Hunger Games movie with her heroism that perseveres when hope seems lost.
Does this deserve such a high rating on my scale compared to Hunger Games when it is a low-key drama? I wasn't sure at first, but then I realized that capturing heroism in a more realistic setting is more valuable and meaningful than heroism in a contrived fantasy universe.
