Review of Joy (2015) by Dylan M — 06 Mar 2016
An intriguing story. Joy is enjoyable solely on Jennifer Lawrence's performance. David O. Russell brings back the trio of Deniro, Cooper, and Lawrence to show us the story of Joy, an inventor who creates a mop.
Well I guess you can say its not the most interesting topic to make a movie about. The best word to describe Joy is underwhelming. It doesn't really alter your emotions, drags on, but it is a good first time watch.
I liked Joys first half the best. I was really interested by the story and was engaged with the film. The film to me was built up enough to have a strong finish. But the movie kind of falls apart half way.
The story dies down, not much energy from the cast. It really felt slowed down. Although Joy has a great cast, many of the characters besides Joy are stale and dull. Most of the characters you just don't care about.
There are some scenes that I really like. I honestly just don't think there's enough in the story to make this a stronger film. Although Joy is a flawed film, I still got some enjoyment out of it especially from Jennifer Lawrence.
She is truly one of the best actresses in cinema and is great in everything she does. Joy is a good film to watch once, twice at the most, to educate yourself on an influential piece of human history.
