Review of Joy (2015) by Scraper — 13 Feb 2017
Though it takes a while to get to the heart, Joy delivers with swells of emotion. Lawrence plays the part of entrepreneur with steely resolve, going to low lows and high highs. After it gets off the ground, portraying the complicated life of a divorced mother with children, the picture strives to drive home the point of an indomitable spirit.
The low-scoring critics seem to have more questions of the story as a whole as if they're upset that this semi-biopic isn't a novel they can study. But I found myself on board, delighted with the unique scenarios and the unlikely subject material that landed plausibly.
