Review of Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) by Kenneth L — 18 Oct 2009
An IMAX 3-D vehicle with nothing much else going for it. It's as if the cast has been plucked and put into a CGI world of animation where 3-D is the lead. Yet even Roger Rabbit produced some twenty years ago had a plot and a cast of fascinating characters, absurd as THAT premise may have been.
Journey to the Center of the Earth translates Jules Verne's beloved novel into Fantasia behind cool grey 3-D glasses, with enough oohs and aahs to keep one technologically amused but ultimately deeply deeply disatisfied.
With the bulk of the budget spent clearly on 3-D display, couldn't they have spent a little more on an equally worthy screenplay?
