Review of Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) by Dave C — 25 Oct 2010

Having just watched this aside Fraser's work in Inkheart, oddly enough it helped give this one some credence. Inkheart fell short because it needed to be smarter than it was. This one however fits right up his alley.

Watching it on t.v. I found myself questioning why the film seemed to bounce back and forth from really low budget looking effects to ones that worked really well. After realizing it was shot in 3D, I think that explained why. That aside, the film is actually fairly entertaining for what it is. And it's not much, but at points it works with Brendan's sort of very light on depth and heavy on enthusiasm type cast, and therefore it can be kind of fun. The paired actors all give just the right chemistry also to add to it without taking away.

It's a children's adventure film, and so it will mostly cater to a younger audience. But for what it is I think it actually ends up being not too bad.
