Review of Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) by Johnny T — 01 Mar 2011
The adventure of this movie is a treat for the eyeballs thanks to director Eric Brevig, an old hand at visual effects, Haunting prehistoric enviroments, glowing bluebirds, flying carnivorous fish, lunging dinosaurs, it's all here. Family-orientated and packed full of special effects thrils, make the journey today. Fraser on form, 3D dinosaurs, geology lessons, phosphorecent hummingbirds, killer flying fish, theme park rides, Icelandic babe - what's not to like? It skews young, but is everything an 8-12 year-old could want. Older siblings and parents will have nothing to complain about either. You don't believe a second of it, but it's easy to enjoy, partly because of the casting of all three leads.
VERDICT: "Full Price" - My second highest rating (Positive to Mixed reaction). This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theatre to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent.
