Don't think they really went to even near the center at all. earth's diameter 8000 miles. center 4000 miles. free fall into volcanic tube 90 sec. free fall terminal velocity 124mph. do the maths: they fell like just 3-4 miles deep into the earth.
calculate more, it would take 33 hours of free falling to the center of the earth. They should rename the movie to Three Smart Asses Fell Down A Hole, In The Backyard. but hey, this is fun to watch with kids.
