This movie is about what happens when a mentally unstable and a moron have a child who turns up to be a genius. The only likable characters I find in this movie are Joshua and the gay uncle. Everyone else is incredibly annoying to watch, specially the mother.

You just want to see her jump off the building or get off'd as soon as possible. It is shown that she has a history of mental instability when Joshua views the video of when he was born. The father, seems more like an annoyed older brother, not too paternal at all.

Seems supportive of his son's interests at the beginning, which are the ancient Egyptian myths. Later, he starts acting aggressiveley towards Joshua when he thinks Joshua is who caused all the problems with his wife going fully mentally unhinged.

The movie, Joshua, seemed to pretend to follow in the steps of The Omen, but it is something else entirely. The ending gives you the biggest clue of what the movie was about. The boy was not inherently evil.

He was the victim of parents who were not parental, who did not know how to or did not try to be parental, who were more set on their own interests, regardless of what was best for their children, parents who were selfish and detached.

The end, when Joshua tells the uncle that "this feels right, like this is what was always meant to be....", of course, the uncle was the only one who had shared quality time with and supported Joshua's individualism, unlike the grandmother who tried to impose her religious beliefs on Joshua, although Joshua seemed acceptant of it.

The song Joshua sings at the end is meant to be an on the spot composition, is very haunting and also gives you a glimpse of what Joshua felt. It seems like a movie about a boy who devises a plan when he sees that his parents are totally ineffective, he decides to get rid of, first the most ineffective one, then when the other one fails completely, that one too, in favor of the one good relative he has.

The dramatic music is completely over done. The adult characters are unnatractive and unlikable. The scenery is grim. It can best be defined as a psychological goal oriented drama.
