Review of Jonah Hex (2010) by Josh L — 20 Feb 2011
Not as bad as I'd feared, but deeply flawed. Feels like a knockoff of the "Wild Wild West" movie with supernatural elements. A chunk of Hex's backstory is reduced to a series of comics at the opening, but this could have been better spent on another 30 minutes of film to flesh out the main character.
The comic montage is a nice touch that is never used again in the movie. Megan Fox's character exists largely as a plot device and John Malkovich doesn't get the opportunity to play his role over the top like he usually does.
Vaguely alludes to philosophical points on nuclear weapons and Confederate guerrilla warfare, but of course never goes anywhere with them. Plays really fast and lose with geography for good measure.
