Review of Johnny Mnemonic (1995) by Diego E — 15 Jul 2010
I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, but for those who don't know, Keanu Reeves is an awful awful actor. What sucks the most about this film is I WANT to like it and for maybe ten minutes of the film I do but then it gets butchered by a combination of horrid dialogue, bad acting, confusing plot, laughable CGI (although for '95 it ain't bad, still horrible by today's standards though) cheesy bad sci fi.
The idea is intriguing but killed by cheesy horridness, it ALMOST works and that's why this movie is so bad, unlike Troll 2 where you just laugh at it, or S. Darko where I just was pissed and cursed at it I wanted it to succeed, but ended up laughing more than being engaged. The idea is intriguing and if rewritten, recast, and renamed it actually may make a pretty damn good movie, short of that.. Don't waste your time.
O unless you want a good laugh, Keeves gives a nearly unbearable and very stupid monolgogue about room service that somehow (don't ask me how) connects into the rest of the film.. yeah, super confusing, really stupid, cheesy, just sorta a bad idea all around.
