Review of Johnny Mnemonic (1995) by Alex F — 20 Mar 2008
WOW! What an awfully fun movie to watch. My friends always told me how awful this movie is and they weren't completely right, but it is pretty bad at points. The casting, the dialogue, the acting, it's just.
...never in my dreams would I think this stuff up. I mean c'mon! You've got Keanu Reeves squaring off with Takeshi "Beat" Kitano, f**king Udo Kier, and Dolph Lundgren (Yes, that Dolph Lundgren) playing some cybernetically enhanced Jesus freak killer.
I gotta hand it to this movie for being ballsy to go with the overt cyberpunk look. Can't say I've ever seen it done this way. And this is pre-Matrix, so it's got some glaring similarities other than Keanu Reeves being in it.
Still though, it's a fun movie to watch with sci-fi nerds and by the end you'll be thinking that Douglas Adams was right.
