Review of Johnny Mnemonic (1995) by Harry W — 13 Jun 2014
I'll cut to the chase: Johnny Mnemonic is not a good film, but viewed in the right frame of mind it's not a boring one either. It's a lot like Tank Girl.
It's ambitions were good with some half decent plot exploration and it's done fairly well for a sic fi action on it's budget, but it's ultimately undone by it's crummy screenplay, confusing direction and terrible acting, most notably a hollow Keanu Reeves and a job by Dolph Lundgren that made no f*cking sense whatsoever. Plus, the action wasn't special and there wasn't enough of it.
I got more interested in the film towards the end, so it's definitely something that you can sit through, but at times theres poor lighting and not enough sic-fi exploration, so it makes you wonder why. It's more like an MTV music video at some times.
