Review of John Wick (2014) by Aidanlockhart — 17 Jan 2015
The death-wish revenge fantasy is, for the most part, in rigor-mortis, and every now and then a bored, juvenile director will poke it with a stick or the toe of their boot. Stahelski and Leithch string it up and make it dance.
This ultra stylish neo-noire occupies a para-alternate universe, New York is the playground for snarling mob factions, hard-knuckle gangsters and velvet smooth assassins. Headshots lightly mist ornate wallpaper; esoteric gold coins dominate the sanguine economy; shell-casings drop like jewelry and punches land cold and honest.
