Retired from his former gig as a feared enforcer for the Russian mob, John Wick is about to go on a run of bad luck that would have Sad Keanu eating sandwiches on that bench for the rest of his days. First his wife suddenly dies, leaving him with the parting gift of an adorable beagle puppy. Then, some Very Bad Men That Don't Know Who He Is Even Though They're Linked To The Same Mob He Used To Work For decide to steal John's fancy muscle car, and kill that same adorable puppy while they're at it.

Unfortunately for those Very Bad Men, and a few dozen other mob goons, John has a very particular set of skills that would give even Taken's Bryan Mills the willies. He knows gun-fu, and he's got guns - lots of guns.

Forget the plot, which appears to be made up entirely of cliché and populated with second-rate gangster archetypes. John Wick is a thrilling set of brutally choreographed action set-pieces, falling somewhere between the crunching beat-em-up of The Raid, the slick DIY mayhem of The Transporter and the bullet ballet of The Matrix.

Wick is the best newcomer to the one-man-army genre in a while, but whether he can pull the same trick off again, in the already greenlit sequel, remains to be seen.
