Review of John Wick (2014) by Ryan V — 11 Apr 2016
The action of this movie starts when a band of impulsive Russian gangsters break into a man's home, kill his dog, and steal his car. Unfortunately for them, this man is a retired (and recently widowed) super-hitman named John Wick (Keanu Reeves).
The surface details of this movie will tell one that this is nothing more than yet another revenge thriller centering on a badass killing machine, but it's rare to find a film that executes its simple premise with such style or craftsmanship.
The myriad of gunfights in John Wick are perfectly paced and consistently exciting to to watch. Also, while the numerous character actors all put in fine work throughout the movie's running time, it should be noted that stoic terseness of the title character is perfectly suited to Keanu Reeves' acting persona.
John Wick is something that's better than the sum of its parts.
