Review of John Q (2002) by Sean S — 06 Dec 2008
Sort of like Dog Day Afternoon in a hospital.
The film certainly had potential and Denzel Washington and Kimberly Elise did well as far as the acting goes but it unfortunately turns out that it's not enough to save it from being a rather average film at best and for me the blame lies with the direction and screenplay.
Parts of the film were downright unrealistic and even stupid. Considering the fact that the issue here is rather serious, this made it almost impossible for me to really care about it as something other than a film. When a film that tries to show supposed injustice in the American health care system doesn't look realistic, I for one think the film has failed in a way. Personally I think the US health care is still miles ahead of what majority of folks the world over has to live with and I think it's stupid to think of hospitals as charity organisations.
