Review of John Q (2002) by Eoghan C — 26 Dec 2013
Pity Denzel can't make this mediocre hostage film watchable. It hits you over the head with its theme on religion (or lack of) even though it involves a father in need of a heart transplant for his son.
Other actors attempt to work with the bland script including James Woods and Robert Duvall. The son is a pretty good actor and makes you wish he lives in the end. For a hostage film, it's executed poorly.
Mainly from the social commentary of American health insurance. There aren't many consequences and doesn't affect the characters that much. If you want to see a film about the flaws of health care system, watch Michael Moore's "Sicko".
Just don't expect anything appealing.
