Review of John Oliver: Terrifying Times (2008) by Maureen C — 23 Sep 2008
The last group of "correspondents" from The Daily Show, namely Ed Helms, Rod Cordry and Stephen Colbert were amongst the best comedy has ever seen. While I'm not quite as enthusiastic about some of their replacements, John Oliver stands out as being a more-than-worthy follow-up to the Colbert's and Helms' of the comic world.
In his own standup special, John Oliver brings his combination of opinion, British wit and sarcasm to the American stage. His standup moves more like a presentation rather than the typical setup-punchline-laugh-repeat style of many comics.
He makes many humorous observations about anything from Fox News to creationism that won't surprise many but rather done in a way that still has a broader appeal than other, more angry topical comics.
For a "debut" special, John Oliver gives a solid hour of comedy.
