Review of John Dies at the End (2013) by Joshua H — 04 Apr 2013
People either love the book or absolutely hate it, I don't see the movie not getting the same treatment. I loved both books, and eagerly awaited this movie. while this movie could have been better, I didn't set any expectations on it excepting the reality there is no way they could pull off the book or its windy maze of storytelling and succeed in a film.
having narration of lies and half truths and perceived events just wouldn't have made it. instead, we get a bit from the book, a fairly well acted and entertaining movie, somewhat faithful to some of the book.
if they had tried to follow the book, it would have been way too long and way to complicated for a movie going audience. I enjoyed it for what it was, although I'm not sure that's how I perceived John, but then, we all probably saw him as we thought he would be.
I would say the book was better then the movie, but isn't that always the case? I would recommend to read the book, but not everyone gets it or enjoys it. it's not a bad movie, it's entertaining and witty, and I'll watch it again.
