Review of John Dies at the End (2013) by Patrick B — 06 May 2013
A decent attempt. It captures the humor and the horror fairly well. The effects were lacking, but not any more than I expected from the trailer. Its main downfall is that it cuts out too much from the book after following it faithfully at the start.
The pacing ends up feeling very slow, most of the fun cast of characters lose their personalities, and the conclusion is abrupt and ultimately unsatisfying. It's a hell of a trip, but at the end you find yourself stranded.
