Review of John Dies at the End (2013) by Gil S — 18 Jul 2013
Far too complex for a 100 minute film. Like a Cliffs Notes version of the book, which Ioved. The real joy that's missing is the set up of the longstanding friendship between David & John and the hilarious lengths they'll go to for each other.
It's also good sci-fi, very imaginative and vivid, and you do get a sense of that in the movie. The ensemble characters get short shrift and their pivotal contributions seem random, thrown into the film to keep things moving quickly.
Sorry, Don Coscarelli. I really am a fan! This time, though, I've gotta recommend that folks read the book.
